Hey folks,
For those of you that made it to AquaShella this past weekend I hope you all had as much fun as we did. It was a great turn out and everyone that came by our booth was super excited to see the new items that are launching this spring and summer. With as many people that came by our booth you should start receiving calls inquiring about both the Angels and the Gouramis. Creating a demand before the supply always helps sales.
Well apparently there's no rest for the wicked because as soon as we got back from Aquashella we had to get right back to it. But before we get to the fish I would like to thank everyone who has been checking out our social media content. We had one of our Instagram videos eclipse 6M views this week! So if you haven't seen any of our content yet please click on the links above.
Now on to the fun stuff. So many great new items this week it's hard to know where to begin but let's go with Peru. Haven't gotten anything from there in a while so there are definitely some restocks as well as some items that are either new or long lost favorites. I think everyone's top pick will be the Asellus aka Amazon Puffers. These freshwater gumballs are one of if nit the most popular species when available. These are running about an inch right now but that's not necessarily a bad thing as they tend to acclimate more readily at this size. Be sure to pump them full of frozen foods as that helps bolster their immune system. Next I'm going to jump ahead to my favorite item and that's the Sunset Apistos. While they are mixy in both size and sex there are some big males in the group. I am tempted top grab a few of these for my office. Next on my list are the Splash Tetras. Why these haven't become a Florida bred staple is beyond me. I understand there are a few tricks to breeding them but I would love to see this species available with more frequency as I'm sure everyone else would as well. And speaking of Tetras we got in some of the world's biggest Bleeding Hearts. Color is great but the size is amazing.
Peru had no shortage of bottom dwellers this week. Oil Cats (better known as Honeycombs) are back on this shipment. A dwarf driftwwod species these benefit from softer conditions so cutting their source water with R/O is highly recommended. Banjos came in big as they usually do from there. Zebra Otos are as nice as ever. Pygmy Cories are in for the first time in months and will probably be sold out in a day. And not to be outdone we got in a great selection of Plecos including Adonis, Flash, Redfin Thresher and Iquitos Tigers.
Indo almost always has at least a few choice goodies on each order and this week's did not disappoint. I'm gonna start with the restock of the Adolfoi Cories. If you missed out on them last time then here's your chance to make up for it. Size is even bigger and they orange caps are super bright. And speaking of Cories we also got in Reynoldsi for what I believe is the first time ever. These are a banded type and they came in absolutely huge. You will not be disappointed with these. Same goes for the new Samurai Gouramis. These are some of the biggest I have seen in years. I have found these to be significantly easier to keep than their Chocolate cousins. And since we're talking about oversized specimens the new Black Emperors are outstanding this week. About as big as they come in from Indo with a metallic purple sheen. But if you want an example of exceptional then look no further than the Choprai Danios. These ARE the biggest, nicest I have ever laid eyes on.
And as usual we can't have a newsletter without including some good ole Florida raised beauties. African Cichlids are gonna take center stage this week as we are preparing for Global next week I have set aside some gorgeous show pieces. However just as I normally do I set aside too much so some of these are spilling over onto the list. So many Peacocks in stock this week it's nit even funny. Mostly assorteds but got just about every size one could want. We also have a new item (new as a Florida raised item anyway) Tanganyikan Killies. These are still fairly uncommon in stores and are typically only found online so now's your chance to offer your customers something unique and highly sought after by collectors. But if rare and unusual isn't your thing then we also got restocked on plenty of gorgeous Mbuna including multiple sizes of the fancy mixed.
One last note. If you're planning to attend Global next week please stop by and see us in the Aquatics Lounge. You'll get to see all of our new offerings as well as receive a show discount just for saying hello. Hope to see you all there!
