Hey folks,
Just a reminder that our shipping schedule has changed for next week due to the holiday so be sure to check it before placing your orders, it is attached to the price list. Well we had yet another great week of incoming despite heading into what many consider to be the "slow" time of year for our industry. While I won't disagree that foot traffic tends to lighten up I will say that just allows you more time to spend with customers that are still in the market for fish and a wise man once told me "you can't sell it if you don't have it".
So with that being said let's start with Colombia. While it might seem a bit bit boring and common at first my favorite entry for this week's shipment are the Wild Oscars. It's been nearly a year (or at lest it feel like it) since we've been able to get these in. I definitely prefer these to most of the captive produced strains due to the fact that these have proper conformation and better patterning as adults. The other Cichlid to grace this shipment's presence are some old school Belly Crawler type Pikes. Nothing rare or unusual here but they are very budget friendly and always a great seller. And speaking of great sellers got a really nice load of Cories this week including Agassizi, Arcuatus (Skunk), Metae, Concolor and everyone's favorite nano scavenger, Pygmys. Sticking with the scavenger theme Plecos got some nice restocks with familiar faces such as wild Bushynose, small Blue Phantoms, regular and XL Royals. And not to be outdone the Characins got some long lost favorites reintroduced this week with Red Hooks and Flagtail Prochs.
Far East Imports never disappoint and always bring in some much needed staples. Begininng with brackish we got in Archers, Spotted and Figure Eight Puffers. Rainbow Dace are showing the best color they're going to have all year. Got in just about every type of Ram one could want including Blues, Electric Blues, Golds, Balloons and Bolivian. Clown Knives are so heavy in numbers they're about to take over the farm. New batch of Kribensis are showing why they're the most popular West African Cichlid of all time. And hoping we got in enough Galaxy Rasboras to go around even though it's a shortened holiday week.
Not sure if I can fit everything new that came in from local vendors this week in this spot so I made sure to include plenty of pics down below, hopefully I didn't miss anything. Starting with the Rainbows I don't think I've ever seen bigger Threadfins in my life. These things are beyond impressive truly deserving their namesake this week. Medium Turquoise are back after a brief absence. And if you missed the pic last time I'm including another one of the Orange Albino Millenia, these are outstanding. Moonlight Gouramis are back for the first time this summer proving that you don't have to be gaudy in order to be impressive. Medium Smokeys are the best looking standard angel on the farm currently. Got some Florida raised Mollies form a new(ish) source that are spectacular.
I can't remember the last time we got in so many Florida raised Cichlids in the same week. Some are restocks, some are new sizes but all are awesome. I'll start with the most colorful and that has to be the Kyoga Flamebacks. This is a captive Florida strain so it definitely isn't pure but it definitely IS awesome. Tons of red as the name suggests and on some of them it's not just on the back but all over the body. This is an all male group and worth every penny. Next up may not be nearly as flashy but equally as cool due to it's obscurity are the Astatotilapia Calliptera. This is another all male group and while they haven't fully colored up yet they will within a few days. And while these look to be Victorian they are actually from Lake Malawi. Regardless of their origin the Cichlid nerds are going to be chomping at the bit to get ahold of some of these as they are just not that common. And while I have featured these a number of times I can't talk about African Cichlids without highlighting some Peacocks since both the medium and large assorted got some fantastic new additions this week.
But it's not just about the Rift Lakes this week. Centrals and Southies got some great refills as well. I mentioned them last week but the 4" & 5" Red Head Tapajos were sold out before I could even hit send on the email. Fortunately we were able to restock both sizes along with adding some mediums to the mix. All have color and all will be gone in a blink of an eye. And since we're talking Geos I think this is the largest selection of Florida raised we've had all at once in a long time. Other additions to this genus include Balzani, Steindachneri and Hechelii (yes I know they're technically Acarhychthys but most people don't care). But if you're looking for something more aggressive we also got in 3" Cubans, Red Devils and two bigger sizes of Texas Cichlids.
