Also Mono Sebae, Ornate Bichirs, Redtail Botias & more

It's summer. Things are heating up. Fish are getting bigger every day blah blah blah. Making fun of my own rhetoric there but all of that is true. It is summer and with that we see increased growth on a lot of the fish both here as well as a lot of the imports. When I was in retail I always used to say that this was the best time of year to buy fish but the worst time to try and sell them. Fortunately it looks like most of you are still staying pretty busy as we have been running around trying to keep up with the demand. But all that means is that it justifies us bringing in more and more fish each and every week.
I'm gonna jump right in with the Far East this week cuz one of my absolute favorite Killies, Nothobranchius Guentheri (gazuntite). Got these a little while ago and we blew through them immediately. Dollar for dollar thee are by far the coolest in the Killifish family as they are super colorful and stay relatively small. They can be quite quarrelsome with their own kind so be sure to provide shelter for them even if you're only holding them temporarily. We use shredded black plastic and that seems to keep the aggression down. We also got another batch of really nice Gardneri Killies. Even though these are fairly common these are very nice size with great color.
For something non-kilie related we got pretty much every mainline brackish water fish you could want (or at least realistically sell). New Archers are very nice size, around 2", and look to be holding up great so far. Mono Sebae are in for the first time in a while. Already saw some chowing down on bloodworms this morning so I'll take that as a good sign. Both Spotted and Figure Eight puffers got considerably bigger than the last several batches. But if Brckish isn't your thing then on the opposite end of the spectrum we got in some very nice Far East raised Tetras including Rosy, Black Emperor and Congo. And if you're looking for something to fill the bottom of the tank we got in some very nice Redtail Botias and a new size of Zig Zag Eel.
Like I said at the beginning it's heating up down here but that's a good thing as far as fish farming goes. Size is running big on most local items and that's certainly true for the large assorted Gouramis. Once again pretty good selection in the mix and most of what's in there is nearly full grown. Check out the pic of the Gold Gourami i included this week. Thing barely fits in my hand. And at the risk of sounding repetitive most of the Rainbows are running oversize if not just plain huge. Case in point. check out the large assorted. Great mix of species in there and not a dud in the bunch. And not to be outdone, most of the Florida raised Barbs are quickly gaining ground on both size and color. If you're not sure what to get just look to the Cherries, they're not all necessarily huge but all of them look fantastic this week.
And since I usually like to end things on Florida raised why should this week be any different lol. Should name this "old School" week as we managed to stock up on a lot varieties that were super popular back in the day. I struggle between the Port (Dimerus) Cichlid and the OG Blue Acaras as to which one is my favorite. Had both of these growing up and I can make an argument for either one. And yes, I absolutely prefer the original Blue Acara to the electric blue variant. Not saying there's anything wrong with the EBs just feel that there's a lot more going on in terms of color and pattern in the "wild" type. And since we went old schools of course we got in some Curviceps. If you have a hard time moving these try marketing them as Dwarf Flag Cichlids, that's what some of the farms down here call them. And last but not least we got restocked on just about every size of assorted Peacock you could possibly want. All are gorgeous and great for anyone looking to add some serious color to their tank.

| Blue Panaques may not be as flashy as some other "fancy" Plecos but they still have a subtle beauty to them. Almost impossible to capture in a photo (or at least one taken with a camera phone) these guys have an incredible blue hue cast over a jet black background. People who are familiar with this species always snag them right away. |

| Black Cucata Plecos came in from Colombia last night. These are a Bushynose relative and also do an amazing job at cleaning nuisance algae. Regular Bushynose have been in short supply (other than super tiny ones) so these are a great alternative. |

| Butterfly Plecos are back and just about perfect. Great size with well defined markings. |

| World's largest Pygmy Cory?! Well maybe not but there are definitely some chonkers in the mix. Just to be clear most are NOT this big, but they are running very nice size overall. Just wanted to show an example of what these look like as adults. |

| If you're looking for something interesting, hardy and inexpensive all at the same time then the Brown Ghost Knives are for you. Seriously I got nothin after that. |

| Got a handful of Ruby Tetras available this week but only a handful. These have been holding up really well and are nicely colored up after having a chance to settle in. |

| Punctatus Cories are running about as big as we see come through here. Great size on a staple Cory that everyone should be stocking when available. |

| If you're not trying to buy the Blochi Cories this week then you're missing out. Only got a handful available and they are THE nicest Cory on the farm this week. |

| Last time we got Guentheri Killies in they were gone in the first two days. Got in a few more this time around but they're even bigger and nicer. We get inquiries for Killies every day and the offerings are usually the same. These are one of the nicest looking species that won't break the bank and they're holding up just fine in hard water. |

| And yes, I know I'm being a bit of a hypocrite since I basically just threw Gardneris under the bus as being a "basic" Killie but this week's batch is anything but basic. Look to be all male and most in full color already. |

| Haven't seen Rosy Tetras in a bit. Everyone should always be trying to stock what big box don't and this is one of those items they don't. Once settled in these are just as nice as Candy Canes. This is something you should carry in addition to, not instead of. |

| What I just said about Rosy Tetras can be said for Black Emperors as well. Glad I already wrote that cuz I don't feel ike typing all that again lol. |

| Adolfoi rank among my favorite Cories pf all time. Jet Balck stripe going down the dorsal side really sets off their bright orange cap. |

| Brackish is back in fashion this week and that includes Mono Sebaes. Haven't gotten these in a while so they are sure to fly out of here. |

| No brackish selection would be complete without Spotted Puffers. This batch is considerably larger than what 'we've been getting the past couple of months so be sure to stock up. |

| Same goes for Figure Eights. Nice thing about these guys is so long as you keep them well fed they tend to leave each other alone and not be as nippy as their spotted cousins. |

| Redtail Botias are abck with great size and color this week. If you don't read this regularly these are fantastic nuisance snail regulators. They will clear out an infestation in about a week's time. |
|
 |
| Got a couple of sizes on Zig Zag Eels this week including 6-8". Most of these are closer to 6" but still much heftier than the regulars and well worth the extra money. |

| New batch of Ornate Bichirs are great size with superb patterns. |

| 3-4" Redtail Cats are eating like, well, Redtail Cats. Nice and fat and most are closer to 4" than 3". |

| Haven't mentioned the blue Butterfly Moon Platies in quite some time due availability as well as when they have come in they have been very average looking. That is not the case this week. They definitely caught my attention as I walked past the tank as this is one of the nicest batches to come through here. |

| BB Platies are a standout every time we get them. Yes, they're not the cheapest Platy on the market but they absolutely sell out every time we get them. |

| Green Swords are back in stock this week. This batch is very speckly, almost like a Montezuma type. |
|

| Not sure if we've gotten this color variant before, certainly not recently, but the Gold MM Swords really stand apart from the other varieties this week. |

| No matter what else you're ordering this week be sure to add some large assorted Gouramis this week. The pic speaks for itself. |

| New batch of Blue Paradise came in over the weekend and these are even nicer than the last group (which was very nice by the way. Lots of color with super exaggerated fins. |

| The Red Paradise we have currently are far east imports. These have a different look to them compared to the Florida raised ones. More of a burnt orange coloration with a bit lighter sky blue atop the head. |

| As I mentioned last week Angel availability continues to improve every week including this week's addition of select sized Blacks. Hopefully this is a trend we will continue to see moving forward. |

| But if you're in need of something smaller and a bit more budget friendly than the import Strawberry Peacocks are your best choice this week. New batch just came in over the weekend and they are full of color. |
