Four-eyed fish, gold nuggets, & other fancy plecos
Hey folks, I don't need to say much this week other than BRAZIL IS HERE!!! We have been waiting for months to get Brazil in. The hold up has been lack of availability due to weather. But the wait is finally over. We brought in as much as we could but I can guarantee it's not gonna be enough so as soon as you read this place your order immediately. Of course the main topic will be the Gold Nugget Plecos. We got in all three: L-18, L-81 & L-177. All look great and there are pics of all three featured here in the email. My suggestion is to grab some of each type so you have enough to go around for your customers. But Gold Nuggets aren't the only Plecos we got in from Brazil. Others include Thresher, Polka Dot and the highly coveted Goldy. In addition to plecos we got in a handful of Anableps aka Four Eyed Fish.
While Brazil was certainly the most exciting shipment we got in this week it wasn't the only one with some great pieces on it. From the far east we got in an assortment of Brackish water species including Mono Sebae, Green Scats and Spotted Puffers. All look great and are sure to attract clientele that aren't going to find them in most chain stores. We also got in Striped Kuhlis for the first time in several weeks. Very limited so don't sleep on these. We also got in some fully colored Rainbow Dace. While they won't look like that all year round they amazing now and will sell out very quickly. Tank Raised Uaru are also in form the far east this week. Albeit on the small side people are alwys looking for these.
As I've mentioned before since we started carrying a more consistent supply of Discus the demand has continued to grow each and every week. Just about every tub is full so there are plenty to choose from. The 2.5" Blue Diamonds And Marlboro Reds are my picks for the week but as I say every time if you're not sure what to get you can almost never go wrong with the assorted.
And although it might be a little early I want to remind everyone that we will be at SuperZoo in Vegas this upcoming August. Want to start planting that seed in case any of you are still on the fence about going. It's one of the largest events for our industry with hundreds of vendors and manufacturers from all over the world. There's always lots of new products being showcased and we are also bringing a few surprises ourselves. Plus it's Vegas. Good way to turn a work trip into a vacation Hope to see you there!
Reach out to your rep if you have any questions.

As I mentioned above Brazil is back and of course the most popular item are the L-18 Gold Nugget Plecos. Kinda obvious why these will be one of the first to sell out. We ordered as many as we could but I don't expect these to be around for more than a week or two so order early. |
The L-81 Gold Nuggets aka Orange Seam (I hate that name because there's another Pleco of no relation already called that) have the finest spotting of all the "Nugget " types. I recommend stocking all three since it's been a about a year since we've had them in and there's no telling how long it'll be till the next shipment. |
Polka Dot Pleco L-020 may not be as flash as any of the Gold nugget types but they have a very distinct look about them. They are short and stout with oversized scales and a very unique diamond pattern to them. They were only here a couple hours when I took this photo so they're still very muted. Google a pic of these and you'll see why I'm so excited we got them in. |
Thresher L-035 is another understated species of Pleco that is also a bit of a standout. It has a very elongated body and lyretail that will continue to extend as it grows. Again these had just arrived when I took the pic but once they settle in they're spotted pattern is very pronounced. |
Goldy Pleco L-014 speak for themselves. Arguably one of the most attractive species of Pleco there is. These get considerably larger than most of the other fancy plecos we got in but are very slow growers. It is however well worth the wait since these are absolute show stoppers once they mature. |
From what I am told it has been many years since we've had Anableps aka Four Eyed Fish available. These guys will spend most of their time at the surface waiting for food to drop in. They relish crickets but can be easily converted onto freeze dried and frozen foods. One of the most unique looking fish in the world. |
Balloon Jewel Cichlids are back in from the far east. While the may be weeble shaped don't let that fool you. These little speed demons can still race around the tank and beat the living daylights outta each other so give them plenty of room and cover so they don't tear themselves apart. |
Kribensis are back for the first time in ages and the size is surprisingly pretty good. They often come in about the size of a pinky nail but these are pretty respectable and will start showing color almost immediately once they're over some substrate. |
Borneo Suckers got a restock this week and there is quite a bit of size difference within the group. Regardless these seem to sell out very quickly every time and a much better option as clean up crew for smaller tanks as opposed to common Plecos. |
New Batch of Spotted Puffers are slightly larger than the last few but are just as adorable. I've said this in the past but holds true that the smaller they are the quicker they sell. I attribute that to the cuteness factor. |
Mono Sebaes are back and so far looking pretty solid. These definitely do best under brackish water conditions so be sure to throw some salt on them. These make good tankmates for the Spotted Puffers since they're to quick to nipped on. |
Brackish water species seem to be a theme this week since we got a restock on some very nice Green Scats. Once acclimated these tend to hold up very well and so far this group looks fantastic. Took this pic right after they arrived and it's already to show some bright green coloration. |
Rainbow Gobies are back and about as big as the last batch. Both groups are about as big as I've ever seen as they usually tend to come in rather small. But these are showing they adult coloration and look amazing. |
Striped Kuhli Loaches are in for the first time in a bit but in very limited numbers so act quickly if you want some. I definitely prefer these to the more commonly available Black Kuhlis. |
Gold Dojos got a restock this week and while they are a bit smaller than the regular Dojos they still really solid. While I would always stock both when I was still in retail I will say the Golds out sold the regulars 2 to 1. So if you have to choose between the two go for the gold. |
Leopard Ctenopoma aka African Spotted Leaf Fish are back in stock at a pretty decent size. While these are technically predatory they are only a threat to species they can comfortably swallow, otherwise these guys are relatively peaceful. |
New batch of Uaru arrived late last week so I wasn't able to get them into last weeks email. Small far east imports as usual but still very cute and will grow up to be one of the most unique looking South American Cichlids. Htese go really well with angels and Severums which makes for a a great looking display. |
Black Ruby barbs are now at the point where the males are coloring up in our bare bottom tanks. So imagine what they'll look like once they over some dark substrate and a background. One of if not my favorite Barbs. |
It's Summertime so once again large Tiger Barbs are absolutely huge. Yes, they are one of the most common staple out there but that doesn't mean that they're boring. The bigger they are the faster they sell. |
Platinum Green Tiger Barbs are back and platinumy as ever. Yes I know that's not a word but it's the best description I could come up with. If I had to choose between these and the regular Greens I would go with these all day long. They typically came in at a much bigger size and stand out as far as color is concerned.. |
Florida raised Albino Paradise are as nice as they get. Plenty of fired up males like this in the batch |
When colored up for the season Rainbow Dace are one of the most impressive North American native fish out there. But even though these are far east raised check your state and local legislation to make sure you're allowed to sell them. |

I say this just about every week but the hotter it gets the bigger the Rainbows get. This week's award for best looking Rainbow goes to the Neon Dwarf. These are just about full grown and are absolute stunners. They don't get any better than this. |
Medium Reds are quite as impressive when it comes to size but the color is fantastic and the male/female ratio is about 50/50. |
You can never go wrong with the Deep Water Creeks (Firetail is a much better name for these) and even more so this week since they're on special. |
Blue Kerris are one of my absolute favorite Tetras for two reason. One because they're bright purple. Two because you're not gonna see them in chain stores and everybody that wants these will have to come to you. |
Still getting small Silver Dollars in for the time being. I often say bigger is better when it comes to most species but this is the exception to the rule. These sell much better at a smaller size. Just make sure your customers understand how big these guys can get. Nowhere near Pacu size but certainly bigger than a Neon lol. |
Black Emperor Tetras are back in stock and while this batch is a tad on the small side they still stand out amongst most other Tetras. Jet black with a purple sheen and blue/green eyes makes for a stunning color combination. |
Yup, we're back on Black Phantoms again. But it's not just because they're still awesome and huge. It's because they're also on special this week. Not like you should require added incentive to buy these, they're spectacular. |
Rosy aka poor man's Candy Cane Tetra are running well above average with really good color. They deserve more attention than they get. |
Like a lot of the Tetras this week the Silver Tips are running big and the males are in full color. It may be the slower time of year but it's definitely the best time to stock up. |
Silver Hatchets came in from Colombia late last week and look great. Availability is hit or miss on these guys so grab some while they're here. |
Like everything else Bloodfins are running big and beautiful this week. |
Central/South American Cichlids |
Got a restock on Chocolate Cichlids this week. They may be the brownest fish in the universe but they grow up to be big and humpy. Not sure if that's a good thing or not but they definitely have a fan base. |
I feature these every time we get them in because they're my favorite Central/Southie out there. These are the 4" size on the Cubans but if you're looking for something a little smaller and cheaper we also got in 2" this week. |
Got in another batch of 4"+ Carpintis from one of local vendors. He probably has the purest strain in all of Florida so these are only going to get better with age. |
From the same vendor as above we got in more True Red Terrors aka Festae Cichlids. You don't have to take my word for it, check out adults of the same bloodline down below. |
Parents to the above. We do NOT have these in stock, just the juveniles pictured above. |
Don't need much of a sales pitch here. Regular Green Terrors sell all by themselves. |
New German Red peacocks are in stock! This is the first time we've ever had true German Reds available. Florida Bred by a local hobbyist who imported his broodstock from Europe years ago and has kept the line pure. These are average about 2 inches, some more like 2.5. Males are already showing color For the price these are excellent. The perfect option for someone wanting to breed a higher-end peacock line for themselves. |
Albino "Swallowtail" peacocks are a type of albino jake showing bright albino coloration. These should get nice long fins with age like their namesake indicates |
Regular Assorted Haps sold out so quickly they barely made the list. Hope these will too because there is a great mix in there and you get a lot of bang for the buck. There are some hybrids in there but they're still a great value. |
Still have a few Ndiwe Fire Haps but I do mean a few. Like literally two or three pieces. Color is amazing and these would make a fantastic addition to any dislpay. |
Mixed Medium Male Peacocks got a little bit of fresh blood infused this week, and they're showing good natural color. |
Marlboro Red |
Found this Leopard Discus in the 2.5" assorted mix. |
Blue Diamond 2.5" |

While they're not quite as impressive as the Gold Nuggets we got in this week Colombian Snowballs are one of the best value Plecos money can buy. |

Punctatus Cory |
Tiger Shovelnose |
Hermit Crabs |
White Wizard Snail |
Papua Blueberry Snail |
Red Crystal Shrimp are one of the many, many new shrimp this week. I think we got more shrimp at one time right now than I can ever remember us having, so it's a great time to stock a shrimp tank. |
Bloody Mary Shrimp are some of the nicest to come through here. Often times they come in very dark but these look more like a cherry shrimp on steroids. |
Yes, I know Dwarf Frogs are not an invertebrate but didn't have a better section to put them under. Mentioning these because we usually sell out of these very quickly and don't always have enough to go around but this week it looks like we have plenty. Plus the size on them is bigger than normal. |
