Stingrays are here! For the first time in years we have a very small handful of  far east captive raised Motoros. Size is perfect and so far they are holding up great!

    Hey folks,
in case you haven't heard captive raised Motoro Stingrays are here! As I mentioned above it has been years (long before I got here) since we've had these. Needless to say they are not cheap but nor should they be since availability has been incredibly scarce on these for quite sometime (I've been trying to order these for the last 18 months with no luck). Numbers are extremely limited so get with your sales rep before you're done reading this email if you want a shot at one. I tried to always keep one or two in my store whenever I could. Not because I thought I would sell through them immediately but because they're a great show peace and gets people talking about your operation through social media. Everybody is fascinated by these amazing creatures and will definitely bring attention your way.

Well in addition to the rays we had a pretty great week of incoming all around. The most exciting is most definitely the Colombia shipment. Availability out of there has been pretty limited for last few months without a ton of variety. Not so much is the case this week. In addition to the much needed staple items we got in quite a bit of both new and long forgotten species. We'll start with my personal favorite, Dragon Gobies. These guys used to be such a common staple in the hobby but has slowly all but disappeared in recent years. While they look like ferocious predators they're actually quite docile so be careful what you put with them. I recommend keeping them as a species only tank so as to not allow them to get out competed for food. We also got transparent knives in for the first time since I've been here. Unlike some of their cousins these guys will actually school with their own kind and can often be seen out during the day. Another oddball not frequently seen are the Redtail Hemiodus. A tetra relative these guys are tight schoolers that do best in groups. Be sure to provide them with soft water to help them to acclimate quickly. And last but not least we finally got in Green Neon Tetras. As of this morning they looked to be holding up rather well but as we all know that can change quickly so check with your sales rep as to their condition when you go to place your order.

I know that was a bit of a rant so believe it or not we did get fish in other than Stingrays and Colombian imports. Plenty of much needed far east restocks including Electric Blue Jack Dempseys. For whatever reason these haven't been available in months. We brought in as many as we could but it definitely won't be enough so don't sleep on these. We also got in some of the nicest Lemon Oscars I've seen come through here. Super bright and a lot of them have some black markings in the fins making for some great contrast. and sticking with the far east raised Cichlid theme we got a restock on the 2" Red Pearl Flowerhorns. These are nicer than the typical Bangkok variety that we typically get and they're nearly the same price. And whether you see this as a good thing or not these tend to get super humpy (a trait that most people collecting Flowerhorns find desirable).

And last but definitely not least are of course the Florida raised Cichlids. Always something new here as it's what Florida is known for (fish wise, not the alligators, hurricanes and awful humidity wise). In addition to the typical restocks we got in some OB Tequila Sunrise Haps for the first time since March. Yes these are a hybrid but these are large males with fantastic color that your customers will absolutely love. We also got one of the best restocks on medium mixed male Peacocks in a while. And that's saying something because that assortment is usually pretty hot. And in addition to all that we got in two sizes of the super popular Fancy Mix Mbuna. Check out the pics below and you'll see why they're so popular.

And although it might be a little early I want to remind everyone that we will be at SuperZoo in Vegas this upcoming August. Want to start planting that seed in case any of you are still on the fence about going. It's one of the largest events for our industry with hundreds of vendors and manufacturers from all over the world. There's always lots of new products being showcased and we are also bringing a few surprises ourselves. Plus it's Vegas. Good way to turn a work trip into a vacation Hope to see you there!

Dragon Gobies are in stock for the first time in ages. Despite their appearnce these guys are actually quite docile and are not predatory. They prefer smaller frozen food items including daphnia and brine shrimp. They also benefit from a soft, belly safe substrate.
Another awesome addition to this week's Colombia shipment are the Transparent Knives. I can't remember the last time I saw these come available but it's been quite a while. These guys are quite peaceful and can be kept together in groups. Be sure to offer them plenty of frozen foods initially as they usually won't take to dry diets at first.
Medium Silver Arowanas got a restock this week with the new Colombia shipment. Great thing about these guys is that they pretty much sell themselves.
Redtail Hemiodus are in stock for the first time since I've been here. These guys take a bit to settle in but once they do they are one of the neatest Characins out there.
Whiptail Cats are in for the first time in months and the size is excellent. Not tiny like they often come in as and not too big where they'll have a difficult time acclimating. These should settle in immediately and that's probably just how they'll sell out, immediately.
Colombian Punctatus Cories look amazing. Huge with fantastic spotting. Doubt these will last a week.
Wild Oscars look way cooler than tank raised Oscars. It confuses me very much why we don't sell out of these first before "assorted small Oscar" on the list.  This is very likely Astronautus Mikolgi for the species.  They look extremely similar to the "bumblebee Oscars" that everyone's trying to track down while they're young.
    Asia Imports
Red & White Ranchus are probably the best looking Goldfish here right now. Size and conformation are both great. But full transparency there are a few solid reds in the mix but that won't discourage anybody from snapping these up right away.
Electric Blue Jacks are BACK!!! Finally, after probably 6 months at least of not having them, they're back in the building.  They look as good as ever and they were definitely missed.  I'm sure this first batch will fly out of here from everybody that's been waiting on these for many months.
Lemon Oscars are restocked and look great.  It's a mix of both tiger and solid color lemons, and some have darker fins that look super cool outlining the bright yellow body in black.  The one pictured is a good "average" fish of what to expect.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, these things creep me the hell out. Anything that is missing eyes on purpose is just odd but they're called Blind Cave Tetras for a reason. Fyi they can be a bit nippy so if you're going to mix them with anything make sure they're fast enough not to get picked on.
Choprai (Glowlight) danio are excellent for planted tanks or anyone catering to nano tanks.
Got a restock on 3" Clown Loaches this week and might be getting some 4" also. These have been selling incredibly well so we're going to bring these in every time they're available.
Albino Spotted Hoplo Cats came in late last week so I wasn't able to get them into the email but here they are now. I'm not a huge fan of most albino variants but these are actually nicer looking than their wild counterparts.
Red Pearl Flowerhorns came in last night and they're just as nice as the past batch. These are coming from a different supplier than the regular Flowerhorns that we usually stock but these are much nicer and cost only slightly more. These start showing humps at a very young age so these are definitely going to be impressive as adults.
Orange Chromides are back and just as nice as ever. One of the only commercially available Asian species of Cichlids this particular variant is an aquarium bred strain and much nicer looking than their wild counterparts.
New batch of Chili Rasboras came in looking strong and look to be the species that most consider to be the true "Chili". There are several species of Boraras that come in as Chili Rasbora but it's Boraras Brigittae that everyone wants. We can never guarantee what the far east supplier is going to send but this week it looks to be the correct one. Don't always count on that when ordering these.

Jumbo Bala Sharks are truly jumbo.  normal sized pen for comparison.....these are probably 10-12 inches long and bigger around than my scrawny office-job biceps.  Personally I've never been a big fan of Balas because of how large they get, but I'll admit they do at least look very impressive when they're this size.  They're powerful swimmers, and powerful jumpers.  Lids are a must
Large Black Angelfish are fantastic and super impressive.  Definitely the best angel on the list this week by far.  Medium veils are still a solid 2nd place best angel, but not running as oversized as they were a few weeks ago.
1.5" Tinfoil Barbs are back this week and already showing good color in the fins. These guys are notorious jumpers even at this size so be sure to keep a lid on them.
While most of the Rainbows tend to run large and look nice this time of year the large Emeralds are this week's standouts. Size is of course great and they seem to be a bit male heavy showing excellent color.
Just like the Emeralds the Featherfin Rainbows are running big with great color. The finnage is the real standout on these guys.
    Livebearers
    Lemon Male Guppy
    Gold Tux Guppy
    Japanese Blue Bottom Sword Guppy
    Marigold Sword
    Green Sword
    Pineapple Sword
    Velvet Wag Sword
    Tetras
Colombian Red & Blue Tetras are running slightly bigger than average but are one of those staple items you should always have in stock.
It's summer so of course the Buenos Aires are running big. One of the most underrated Tetras due to the fact that they're not as flashy as some other species, these guys are practically indestructible and are the perfect beginner fish.
When you have a moment Google some pics of Albino Glowlights and you'll see how amazing these guys look once they mature out a bit. Their orange stripe turns bright red with time making them one of the nicest looking albino type Tetras.
Mixed Sex Congos are mixed not only in gender but in size as well. But that not withstanding these are the better choice between the two options as this batch has some very large males in the group.
Not the most exciting fish in the but regardless everyone needs to be stocking Black Skirts and there's no time like the present since they're running way oversize right now.
    Central/South American Cichlids
Got in medium Red Spot Gold Severums yesterday and I don't expect them to be here long. These speak for themselves as the color is fantastic. Super bright with tons of spotting. Most of you have already heard this speech but for those of you that haven't these are Florida bred so no hormones added. What you see is what you get and these will only get better with age.
Medium EB Acaras might as well be listed as large but they're not so you're getting a terrific value this week. These pair really well with the Red Spotted Gold Severums and make for an awesome display.
Still have quite a few small Jurapari on hand and they're looking great. Already putting on some size and really starting to show some nice iridescence.
3" Heckelii are running almost as big as the 4". These have become one of if not the best selling "Geo". In addition to their iridescent sheen, the fin extensions on the adult males makes them absolute show stoppers.
Got a handful of large Jack Dempseys on hand and are expecting some more in over the weekend. Once one of the most common Central/South American Cichlids these have become rather inconsistent in their availability. Although we're hoping to see that trend change in the near future my advice is to stock up while you can.
Even though Firemouths tend to be a little mixy in size the color is sold on just about all of them.
    Old World Cichlids
Got a huge restock on medium mixed male Peacocks and they are probably some of the nicest looking fish on the farm this week. If I didn't know better I would say these are juiced imports but these are farm raised locally so they are all natural. Some of the nicest freshwater fish money can buy.
There are some Hap types in the medium mixed male Peacocks but at the end of the day most of your customers are just looking for some affordable, brightly colored fish. Hard to get any better than this.
There are definitely some hybrids in the mix but again, most people are just looking for color and not necessarily pure strains for a breeding project.
I get asked all the time well what if our customers don't want to buy something as "assorted"? Well then I just channel my inner Joe and I would call something like this one a Frosted Strawberry Peacock lol.
Got restocked on OB Tequila Sunrise Haps for the first time in months. If these don't sell out right away they're probably gonna make their way to SuperZoo next month so grab some before I set them aside.
Got some Albino Red Empress (6709) in a regular size for the first time. I wish I had a pic of these as adults but you'll just have to Google them so you can see how incredible these are once they mature. They're also a lot more expensive as adults so this is a much more affordable way of obtaining some.
As much as I can go on and on about Haps and Peacocks there's no denying that the most popular selling African Cichlids are the Mbuna types. This week in addition to the usual faire we got in Fancy mixed both in medium and large sizes. And as you'll see from the pics there's some great variety in there. Pictured here are the mediums.
    Large Fancy Mixed Mbuna
    Discus
    2.5" Assorted
    Assorted 2.5"
    Blue Diamond 2.5"
    Plecos & Pals
We mentioned The Brazil shipment at great length last week but unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to ship out any of the Gold Nugget type Plecos. This week we have both the L-18 and L-81s ready to go. These are extremely limited so don't wait to order if you want any.
L-81 Gold Nugget aka Orange Seam Pleco
Skunk Cories are back and albeit they're running a bit small they still look really solid and always on of the best sellers.
Gold Greens might be the best looking Cory here this week. They're huge and brightly colored.
Still have a handful of 4" Tiger Shovelnose available. These are considerably nicer than the 2-3" far east imports and have already grown a bit in the short time they've been here.
