nice Asian shipments as well
Hey folks, well once again we've had yet another great week for incoming. Last week it was the far east including the rays (still have a few left so hurry before they're all gone). Week before it was Brazil. But this week it's Colombia. I'm not gonna go into detail on all the bread & butter stuff, most of which did get refilled, but instead I'm going to dive right into the exciting items that came in. First and foremost are the Peacock Bass. We try getting these every time we place an order with our Colombia suppliers but as you've probably noticed they very rarely come in. This isn't due to a lack of trying but rather a lack of availability. They're just not as accessible as they used to be. That being said what we got in looks amazing but is extremely limited so act quickly if you want a shot at any.
In addition to the Bass we got in some of if not the best looking Tiger Shovelnose Cats ever to come through here. Size and pattern are great. I can almost guarantee these won't last long anywhere they go as these are sure to sell out immediately. We also got in another batch of Sabertooths that came in super solid and look like they're ready to eat everything under the sun. And last but not least we got in what have to be the most adorable Royal Plecos. They look like Otocinclus on steroids. This is one that sells great whether it's tiny or huge. One of the most popular wild Plecos for a reason.
As I said last week's most exciting imports were from the far east and they're definitely not slacking this week either. Whether you're a huge fan of Chinese style goldfish or you're like me and personally can't stand them there's no denying they're some of the most popular fish in the world. That being said we got in the nicest Orandas I think I've ever seen. And remember, not a huge fan. But what is huge is the size on the 15-16cm monsters we got in. Practically the size of a softball. Check out the pics and you'll see what I'm talking about. Good goldfish have been in short supply and high demand for a long time now. These are assorted so there is a good mix of colors in there.
On the opposite end of the spectrum we got in what could quite possibly be the world's smallest Blue Tiger Parrots. Super small and super cute. We also got restocks on some much needed Loaches including 4" Clowns, Sewellia Hillstreams and Redtail Blue Botias. We also got in a very impressive batch of 4-5" Spiny Eels with some oversized individuals in the mix. Amano Shrimp are in for the first time in at least a year. These have been very difficult to come by as we've been getting requests from all around the country for them. And last but never least we got in some great looking Discus from Singapore. 2.5" Leopards are my personal favorite.
In Florida raised fish we got some restocks on some old favorites including Rainbow Cichlids and regular Blue Acaras. These remind me of my early days of fish keeping. All we need to round this out would be some Keyholes and Egyptian Mouthbrooders lol. And as usual there's no shortage of great looking African Cichlids. The real standouts are the large Assorted Male Haps. Some absolute show pieces in there. Be sure to check out the pics down below.
August is almost here and that means SuperZoo is right around the corner. Been mentioning this for weeks now so if you haven't already booked your trip you're running out of time. If you've never attended I highly recommend checking it out. Vendors and manufacturers from all over the globe showing off the newest products and latest innovations in sales and marketing. Lots of great workshops and guest speakers worth attending. We'll be there with plenty of great fish on display so be sure to stop by and say hello. Hope to see you there!

Peacock Bass are back and are the perfect size! Right around 5" so they should acclimate with ease. Without a doubt one of the fastest selling South American Cichlids we get in. These will be gone before we get more than a few meals in them so act quickly if you want a couple. |
Sabertooths came in slightly larger than the last batch and are equally deserving of the name. Use caution when netting these toothy monsters. If they get caught in the net just leave them be, they can usually free themselves. I speak from experience when I say you do not want to get bit by one of these. |
Definitely prefer wild Silver Dollars over the captive stains. These will typically show much better color as adults whereas most captive bred variants tend to be a bit washed out. |
New Tiger Shovelnose are some of the nicest I've seen come through here. Around 6" with fantastic markings. This is another one that is sure to sell out in a hurry. |
Royal Plecos might be some of the smallest I've ever seen but that just makes them that much more adorable. They look a miniature version of the adults complete in proportions. These will sell on cuteness factor alone. |
Got a handful of Motoro Stingrays left and they look amazing. Settled in almost immediately and are eating ghost shrimp like champs. They're at the point where they'll start taking food right out of your hand. They don't get much better than this. |
As I mentioned in the opening monologue the 15-16cm Orandas are some of the nicest I've ever seen. Color and conformation are about as good as it gets. Good goldfish have been extremely difficult to come by so don't miss out on these. |
New Blue Tiger Parrots are tiny and adorable. Look like little striped gumballs bouncing around the tank. I actually prefer these to the more commonly available Blood Parrot. They're newer to the hobby and the striping really sets them apart. |
Far east raised Brichardi are back in stock for the first time in a bit. Next to Frontosas these are one of the most popular Tanganyikan Cichlids there are. Once upon a time known as the Fairy Cichlid nothing could be futher from the truth. Albeit small in stature I've seen these toothy little guys defend their territory against fish that were big enough to swallow them whole. |
Got a restock on Electric Blue Rams this week and as the name suggests they are just that, electric. Super vibrant and they only just got here. Color gets even better as they settle in. |
New Batch of Bangkok Flowerhorns are fantastic. Came in with more red than usual and a couple of them are already sporting streamers. These do best if you can keep them one per tank/cubicle, that way their fins remain intact. |
Kyathit Danios are in for the first time since I've been been here. Also known as the Orange Finned Danio these guys can look very similar and are closely related to Zebra Danios. This is a highly variable species that can display either a highly ocellated or striped pattern. The one in the pic is very representative of what we currently have in stock. More striped with some aberrancy in the pattern. Fins are just starting to color up and will only get better with time. |
4" Clown Loaches sold out so fast last time that we doubled what we ordered and yet that probably still won't be enough. These are fat and super healthy and well worth the extra money. People are always looking for larger sizes on these guys. |
Redtail Blue Botias are back for the first time in months. These are a great size at just over 3" and just like their Clown cousins do an excellent job of eradicating nuisance snails. They can be a little territorial and do well with larger, fast moving tankmates. Great scavenger for Cichlid tanks. |
Sewellia loaches are back in stock and while a bit mixy in size are looking great so far. These are typically the Lineolata species which tends to be the most common and most popular due to is highly contrasted striped pattern. These due best in cooler, well oxygenated environments. |
4"-6" Spiny Eels are back and after trying get these to sit still for a pic I can tell you the name "Spiny" is well deserved. Little suckers actually drew a little bit of blood lol. That not withstanding these are one of the most popular Eels for a reason. When not being manhandled for a photo op they are relatively peaceful and one of the most affordable species out there. |
Florida raised Blue Paradise are in this week and they are absolutely perfect. There is quite a bit of variation from one strain to the next but these are text book examples of what they should look like. Great pattern with vibrant colors and great fin extensions. |
Albino Millenia Rainbows are back and this time with males in the mix with color! A little female heavy but that's ok since unlike most other Rainbow species these have a nice gold coloration to them. |
Medium Kamaka Rainbows are back up to size with some males are ready starting to show their breeding coloration. One of the more underrated species due to the fact that it often gets overshadowed by their Turquoise cousins. I always stocked both in my stores and when these guys were showing off for the females in the tank they would actually outsell their arch rivals. |
Cherry Barbs have been hit or miss as far as size is concerned but this week they're running at the larger end of the spectrum. Either way availability has been pretty consistent as of late for this must have staple. |
Red Panda Barbs are Starting to color here in our bare bottom vats which means they're gonna light up the second they get over some darker colored substrate. Arguably the most attractive barb species as adults. |
3" Albino Rainbows are the best looking shark in house this week. Due to high demand and limited availability most sharks have been running way undersize. However these are pretty much spot on and are the best bang for the buck. |

Candy Canes are back! Been a while since we've had these in stock but well worth the wait. Size is pretty good and color is great. One of the most sought after Tetras with one of the most inconsistent availabilities. These are sure to sell out in a hurry and have no idea how long they'll be around for so don't wait on these. |
Serpaes are running bigger than normal and currently showing great color. Good time to stock up as these can drop in size practically overnight. |
Glowlights are also running big this week. In fact these are some of the biggest I've seen all year. color is just starting to show and is sure to become vibrant as soon as they settle in over some darker colored gravel. Look best over black with a dark background. |
Penguins are back in stock are running average in size. Although that doesn't seem to matter since so long as they're healthy these are always one of the top sellers and these are holding up great. |
Like so many Tetras this time of year Embers are also running a bit over size (for their species). These make for a great addition to planted and/or nano tanks. |
Got restocked with more Silver Hatchets this week from Colombia and so far so good. Should have plenty to go around for this all time favorite. |
Central/South American Cichlids |
Still have a few 5" Dovii left but I do mean a few. This is one of if not the most impressive of the "Tank Busters". Although known for not playing well with others these make for fantastic display specimens. |
Regular Green Terrors are back this week but who knows for how long. Like many of the "should be commonly available South American Cichlids" they have been anything but. Demand has outweighed supply for over a year now so grab as many as you can while you can. |
Medium Jack Dempseys got a restock over the weekend and hoping for some large as well. Just like the above mentioned Green Terrors availability has been spotty on these for the past several months but hopefully that's about to change. |
Got two different sizes on Trimaca this week, 3" and 5". For those of you who are unfamiliar with these it is one of the species used to crate the ever popular Flowerhorn Cichlid. This is definitely where their aggressive nature comes from as these are one of the most territorial species out there. They do best when housed individually. |
Albeit not technically a dwarf species Rainbow Cichlids might as well be. They tend to be relatively peaceful and do well with like sized tankmates. Very deserving of the name once they mature. |
We don't have this size in stock currently but this is what Rainbow cichlids grow up to be like in a realtively short amount of time. |
Old fashioned regular Blue Acaras are due in later today. As juveniles they look very similar to Green terrors due to the fact that they are close relatives. However unlike their aggressive cousin these stay much smaller and are rather docile. I actually prefer these to the now much more common EB Acara. More natural appearnce with a subtle beauty to them. |
Medium Assortd Haps are arguably one of the best values on the farm right now. Great mix of species/variants and quite a few of them already show great color like this Redfin Borleyi. |
Medium Assorted Haps can have some great surprises in there like this Albino Peacock. Obviously not a Hap but still a great value. This is something I would pull out and sell for a few bucks more. Definitely worth it. |
Electric Blue Johanni have been a staple for decades for good reason. One of the most attractive freshwater species money can buy. |
Regular Red Top Hongi became available this week. Another underrated Mbuna that deserves more attention. Body color turns purple as they mature which doesn't take long. These guys are right around the corner from showing adult coloration. |
Assorted Large Male Haps got a bit of a restock this week and as always there are some absolute gems in the mix like this Electric Blue Ahli. I'll put this up any saltwater fish any day of the week. |
Another great specimen found in the above mentioned mix is this male Livingstoni. Granted they get rather large and are one of the more agressive species of Hap, they make for stunning show pieces |
Just like the above mentioned same goes for this male Venustus. This one isn't even in full dominant coloration. |
2.5" Leopard |
Snakeskin 2.5" |
Assorted 2.5" |

Most of the new Colombian Zebra Plecos are running larger than average and have amazing contrast in their striped pattern. |
While the Large Albino Bushynose aren't the biggest we've ever had they are sporting a deep, rich almost tangerine color to them. |
2" Bushynos aren't quite 2". However they are a much better choice over the 1" Bushys this week. Still pretty good value given the price point. |
Paleatus Cories came in with some oversized individuals in the mix and are all looking fantastic. One of the best budget Cories you can get. |
Amano Shrimp are back in stock!!! These are going to go quick. Size is good. This is in the top 5 best selling freshwater livestock for most stores that track their statistics. If you're not carrying these at every opportunity, you're missing out. |
Fire Shrimp are a new(ish) item this week. While we've had species fall under this moniker before these are different from the ones we've had in the past. This is a Caridina species as=nd as you an see from the pic they truly earn their common name. |
Blue Diamond Shrimp are back and very velvety looking this week. Not exactly super descriptive so let me know if anyone has a better suggestion lol. |
Horned Nerite Snails make an excellent addition to any nano tank and like most other Nerite species they won't over populate themselves. |
